Ramon Diaz will try to lead Paraguay to success in the Copa America Centenario tournament, with his eyes set on the title.

Thirty-seven years after winning their second ever Copa America trophy, Paraguay returns with hunger and ambition hoping to take all the glory back home.

Paraguay’s Copa America history

Although Paraguay has clinched the Copa America title twice, they haven’t tasted glory since their triumph in 1979. In recent editions, Ramon Diaz’s men have come close to lifting the trophy, losing in the finals to Uruguay in 2011 and claiming fourth place in 2015. Nonetheless, Los Guaraníes will be entering this anticipated competition with their aims set high, as the aggressive squad hopes to make history this summer for their country.

Recent form

In the past 12 months, Paraguay have been in good form winning twice, drawing three times and losing only once in their last six matches for the 2018 World Cup qualifying stage. Their most recent match was their 2-2 tie against Brazil back in late-March. In addition, Diaz’s lads hold the 49th spot in the FIFA World rankings. The Southern American side could go up in the rankings by displaying a great performance this summer.

Manager’s profile

Head coach Ramon Diaz will be heading into the Copa America Centenario with high hopes for his side after La Albirrojas claimed the fourth place in last year’s Copa America campaign hosted in Chile. Diaz, who has been in charge of the national team since December 2014, has guided his men to a 38.8 winning percentage in all competitions; However, has yet to taste title glory with his team. Nevertheless, this year, he intends to make his country proud with strong performances from his men in this high-profile tournament.

The South American manager has a very similar style to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid which is pressing high, defending collectively and executing rapid counter attacks. With his specific playing style integrated into his lads, Diaz is aiming for a great Copa America Centenario this summer. Furthermore, Diaz has had an impressive career as a professional footballer himself, playing for first division clubs in Italy, France and Argentina, and now has the desire to implement his success in his coaching profession.
