Spurs have long been haunted by St Totteringham's Day, but their star striker looks to put an end to this.

Tottenham Hotspur have not finished ahead of north London rivals Arsenal in the league in 20 years, but the 2015/16 season could see that awful run come to an end, as Spurs sit two points ahead of the Gunners with one more round left to play.

This has star White Hart Lane striker Harry Kane excited, as the Three Lions forward admitted to Spurs correspondent Ben Pearce that he’s eager to deliver a second-placed finish to the fans, though he confessed his disappointment in seeing his side fail to win the league crown.

Kane said: “We definitely want to finish second, that is our aim. It would be a blow [to come third] but we go to Newcastle and we are still backing ourselves to win that game. It hurts not finishing it off at home but we have still got one more game.

“It would be a very good thing [to finish above Arsenal]. It’s not something I think we all focused on at the start of the season, but now we are here it would be good.

“It would be good for the fans to have those bragging rights for the first time in a long time. It’s in our hands, we have just got to win the next game and the job will be done.”

Given the bitter rivalry between Tottenham and Arsenal, St Totteringham's Day – the occasion that marks the Gunners finish ahead of Spurs – is widely celebrated by Gooners, and used to troll their neighbors.

Although Mauricio Pochettino’s crew are in the driving seat to finish ahead of Wenger’s boys, their 2-1 defeat to Southampton on Sunday handed Arsenal fans fresh hope of enjoying St Totteringham's Day this season.

However, this will require Tottenham – who narrowly missed out on the title to Leicester – to lose at St. James’ Park, with Arsenal needing victory in their home clash with Aston Villa on the final day.
