Atletico Madrid’s hopes of piping Barca to the Liga BBVA title has taken a huge blow, as star center-back Diego Godin will be sidelined for 10-15 days with a muscle injury, according to Marca.
The Uruguayan defender hurt his hamstring during Wednesday’s slim 1-0 victory away to Athletic Bilbao, which led tom him being taken off the pitch.
Further tests done to determine the extent of his injury revealed that the 30-year-old defender suffered a “grade I-II injury in the biceps femoris muscle of his right thigh” in the midweek victory, as revealed via the club’s official Twitter account.

This means that Diego Simeone will be without the defender for the clash with Malaga on Saturday at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, with Football Espana claiming that the Uruguayan ace stands no chance of making Wednesday’s clash with Bayern Munich.
This will come as a huge blow to Madrid’s other giants, as they host the Bundesliga champions in the first leg of their semi-final match-up in the Champions League, with the hope of making the final for the second time in three years.
Godin is also a doubt for Atletico Madrid’s trip to Rayo Vallecano on April 30, with the defender facing a race against time to be fit for the 2nd leg trip to the Allianz Arena on May 3.
Luckily for Diego Simeone’s crew, Atletico announced that they’ll be welcoming Jose Maria Gimenez back from injury.
"Good news after training, Jose Maria Gimenez has received a medical discharge and is available for Simeone"
