Newcastle United takes on Manchester City at the St. James’ Park Tuesday night with the comeback of City’s captain, Vincent Kompany and striker, Raheem Sterling.

After Rafael Benitez’s men played a brilliant match thumping Swansea City 3-0 last Saturday at home, it is time for them to welcome third place Manchester City for an anticipated clash.

“The Toons” will be playing against a fired up Manchester City squad with the return of Vincent Kompany and Raheem Sterling. Nonetheless, Newcastle with only 28 points, needs to make a statement against the men in blue in order to stay away from the threatening relegation zone.

Team news - who's fit and who's not?

Things don’t look so positive for the home side, as they will be missing captain, Fabricio Coloccini (calf) and full-back, Daryl Janmaat (groin). Goalkeepers Tim Krul and Rob Elliot (both knee), as well as defenders Massadio Haidara (knee) and Steven Taylor (muscle strain) will also miss Tuesday’s clash due to their ongoing injuries.

While Kompany and Sterling are back on the squad list for Pellegrini, Manchester City with 60 points on the table, will be without their creative playmaker David Silva (ankle). Full-backs Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna are also set to miss the match due to back injuries.

Head to head

With a Manchester City win, Pellegrini’s crew can tally their record to eight victories in the last nine encounters at St. James’ Park. However, Newcastle will fight hard to clinch their first ever win in 19 meetings with the Sky Blues.

Third place Premier League contenders have scored at least two goals in each of their last 15 games against the hosts. On the other hand, Newcastle United have only netted one goal in their last six Premier League appearances with Manchester City.

The Citizens have managed to keep a clean sheet in three of their away matches against Newcastle in all competitions.
