The FA Cup quarter-final clash between West Ham United and Man United is expected to be entertaining if last weekend’s clash between the Hammers and the Gunners is anything to go by. But first things first, here is everything you need to know about this knockout match.

West Ham have had a solid record of disappointing big teams this season both in the Premier League and FA Cup. Last Saturday, they rallied from two goals down to hold Premier League title contenders Arsenal to a 3-3 draw, a result that dented the Gunner’s chances of winning the title that has eluded them for more than a decade.

They now welcome a Man United side that is still fresh from the 3-0 league thrashing in the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at the White Hart Lane last weekend. The Red Devils seem to be losing the battle of a top-four finish in the league, and the FA Cup is their only redemption this season. Earlier this season, Louis Van Gaal’s men were bundled out of the Champions League, Capital One Cup, Premier League title, and now have all their eyes fixed on the FA Cup.

The two sides registered a one-all draw at Old Trafford on March 13 in the first leg of the quarter-final of the FA Cup, hence setting up the right atmosphere for an entertaining replay at Boleyn Ground.

The Hammers have drawn their last three games against Louis Van Gaal’s side in all competitions and judging from their recent good form and their ability to slay big teams, they could as well disappoint the bigwigs. Another interesting statistics is that, West Ham have not beaten the Red Devils in their last 11 games in all competitions. Additionally, Slaven Bilic’s men have not lost any of their last five games in all competitions.

West Ham have been quite solid at Boleyn Ground this season. In fact, they haven’t lost at the ground in their last 16 games in all competitions. Their last loss was back in August.

On the other hand, LVG’s side has won away from home only four times since the beginning of December. Their poor away form could land them in trouble with the Hammers especially at a time like this when there are several reports of dressing room unrest in Man United’s camp following the 3-0 loss to Spurs.

Team news

West Ham

Bilic could maintain the same squad that drew with the Gunners on Saturday. Andy Carroll, who scored a hat-trick against Arsene Wenger’s men, is expected lead the attack force one again. However, Diafrea Sakho could miss due to injury.

Man United

Wayne Rooney played for the U21s on Monday night alongside Phil Jones, but he could still miss today’s fixture. Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who was substituted last weekend against Spurs, will be sidelined due to injury, thus paving way for Matteo Darmian to start. However, if Marcus Rashford doesn’t get a starting berth, then Rooney could be selected to lead the attack.
