Here is everything you need to know about the Dortmund vs Liverpool clash.

As Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund prepare to host their English counterparts Liverpool for their Europa League quarter-final clash, LiveSoccerTV.com brings you everything you need to know about this crucial fixture.

Head to head

The two European giants have met only twice in competitive football. Their first competitive meeting was during the 2001/02 season when the two teams drew 0-0 in the first leg of the fixture in Germany, but Liverpool managed to secure a 2-0 win at Anfield in the reverse fixture. Their next meeting was during a pre-season friendly in 2014 when The Reds beat BVB 4-0 at Anfield.

Key men

Borussia Dortmund boast of a lethal attack force led by Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. The Gabon international has netted 37 goals in 39 games this season for the German outfit, and all eyes will be on him tonight.

On the other hand, Liverpool have quite an unpredictable attack led by the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. With Sturridge’s and Coutinho’s inconsistencies in front of goal, all eyes will be on Firmino, who has scored eight goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side and provided four assists in 25 appearances this season. Jurgen Klopp will also rely on the 24-year-old’s experience in the Bundesliga, having played for Hoffenheim before moving to England to join the Merseyside club.

The Klopp effect

This match has been dubbed ‘The Klopp Derby’ due to the influence of German tactician Jurgen Klopp, who has managed both sides.

WATCH: Klopp shares his views ahead of the derby:

This will be his first return to the Signal Iduna Park since joining Liverpool. At Dortmund, he won the Bundesliga title twice in a row between 2010 and 2012, the DFB-Pokal in 2011/12, and the DFL-Supercup in 2013 and 2014.

The favourites tag

Dortmund are the favourites to win this highly-anticipated derby. Given their poor record at Anfield, they will want to complete the job at home just like they did against another English opposition Tottenham Hotspur earlier last month. This also gives the visitors an added advantage since they will be under little pressure to win the clash, something that could lead to great composure, and most probably, a surprise win.
