Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney was the subject of ridicule on social media after revealing that his son wanted an England shirt with Jamie Vardy’s name at the back. The 30-year-old was speaking as a pundit on ITV, moments before the England vs Netherlands game. He was flanked by former England internationals Lee Dixon and Ian Wright at the punditry corner.
But Jamie Vardy’s rise to the top cannot be ignored; the Leicester City hitman was on target for his country, England, for the second time this season during an international friendly against the Netherlands at the Wembley Stadium. The goal temporarily gave The Three Lions the much-needed lead against the visitors at the break. The England international has proven that his good run of form in the Premier League is not by luck. After netting 19 times for his club in the Premier League before the international break, the 29-year-old continued from where he left by netting two more goals for England while on international duty; one against Germany and his latest against Holland.
With such a great performance, it is not a surprise that Rooney’s son is obsessed with Vardy. Here are some of the best reactions to the revelation:

Rooney's son saying he wants Vardy on his shirt is the strongest possible message to Wayne to say you're not needed in this team. #engnet

So Wayne Rooney's son asked him for an England shirt with Vardy's name on the back. That is true and utterly precious. #ENGvNED
