The first European clash between two of the most winning teams in English football's history ended with Liverpool defeating Manchester United at Anfield Road. Daniel Sturridge's penalty and Roberto Firmino's follow up in the second half were enough for Jurgen Klopp's side to defeat a completely dominated Manchester United team, who conceded most of the game's possession to the hosts in a failed attempt to catch them off guard with counter attacks.
Nathaniel Clyne was brought down by Memphis Depay inside Man United's box, giving Sturridge the chance to score the go ahead goal for Klopp's crew. Sturridge hadn't scored any goals in European tournaments since November of 2010, when he played for Chelsea.

As the game went on, Roberto Firmino put to good use a cross by Jordan Henderson. Liverpool's summer signing has already scored five goals against top EPL teams (2 against Manchester City, two more facing Arsenal and tonight's strike), and also became the third Brazilian player to score a goal for the Reds in a European competition after Fabio Aurelio and Lucas Leiva.

Fair play to Rio Ferdinand for saying that it should have been 3 or 4-0 to Liverpool

Losing to Liverpool is bad enough but the manner of the loss today was embarrassing, in fact it was disgusting.
