Now one of their star players, the Algerian ace admits he knew very little about the Foxes prior to joining them.

Speaking to Four Four Two, in-form Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez opened up about how he came to sign for the Foxes, revealing that he initially thought they were a rugby club.

Making the switch to The King Power stadium in January 2014 as a relatively unknown Algerian winger, the 25-year-old has now seen his stocks take a huge rise with the club’s push for the 2015/16 English Premier League title.

Claudio Ranieri’s boys, led by top-scorer Jamie Vardy and Mahrez, sit on top of the table and look to be on the road to lifting the title ahead of heavyweights Spurs, Arsenal, Man City, and Man United.

However, Mahrez admits that he had never heard of Leicester City prior to joining them.

“I didn’t know Leicester, because in France we didn’t know Leicester. It was in the Championship. Me, I thought it was [a] rugby club before,” the player confessed.
