Kolo Toure proves that brotherhood counts for little – if not nothing – when silverware is on the line.
The Ivory Coast defender will go head to head with his younger, more famous sibling on Sunday when their respective sides lock horns in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley.
Speaking ahead of the game, the Liverpool defender admitted that he would do anything to help the Reds lift the League Cup, even if that meant taking out his own blood.
Speaking to Football Focus, when asked if he’d foul brother Yaya to prevent him from scoring, Kolo responded as per The Sun:
“Big time, I’d take him out.”
“I want to win, that’s it.
“I think he knows me, and he knows that if he’s going to score a goal, I’ll do anything I can do stop him. He knows that.”
Kolo spend three seasons alongside Yaya at the Etihad Stadium from 2010 up until 2013 before sealing a move to Anfield.
The Merseyside giants are no strangers to winning the Capital One Cup, having last clinched the title in 2012 under Kenny Dalglish.
However, Yaya Toure and the Citizens are the more recent League Cup winners of this year’s two finalists, winning the title in 2014 in Manuel Pellegrini’s League and Cup double debut season.
Kolo missed out on Liverpool's 1-0 Europa League win over Augsburg, being rested by manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of Sunday's final, but is expected to return to the starting XI for the Wembley tie.
