The Spanish goalkeeper also shared with his supporters when he decided to leave Real Madrid despite having an ongoing contract with Los Blancos.

After almost three years, Iker Casillas decided to tell the truth about his public struggle with Jose Mourinho.

The goalkeeper revealed in an interview with Televisión Española that he had no contact with Mourinho during the last season in which they shared Real Madrid's locker room. The team's shaky performances, along with a now-public telephone call with Barcelona captains Xavi Hernández and Carles Puyol detonated Mourinho's anger against the 34-year-old shot-stopper.

"I tried to keep things going for as long as I could, but not speaking with your boss for a year makes things difficult. Things started to change when we were struggling in the 2012-13 season, right after he benched me against Málaga. Besides, he didn't agree with a phone call I had with Xavi and Puyol, trying to end the madness between both teams," Casillas told journalist Bertín Osborne.

"I told Xavi and Puyol that La Roja's environment would be affected, and if that happened, Spanish football would be suffering the consequences. After that, he decided Adán was a better choice than me, and when I recovered from my injury, I wasn't allowed to fight for the starting spot since Diego López was doing a fine job," Casillas added.

While some fans wanted him to have a proper farewell ceremony when he announced his departure to play for Porto, the goalie revealed that it was him who decided how he wanted things to take place.

"I was really f****d up. I think it was the best thing to do. I told the club how I wanted the ceremony to be celebrated. The details about my contract were the talk of every sports show, and what was left for me to do was leave. I can't bad-mouth Real Madrid, because things ended up happening the way I wanted them to happen," Porto's goalkeeper concluded.
