The Argentine tactician has been linked with the Old Trafford managerial job, alongside Mourinho, with Van Gaal tipped to be sacked.

Louis Van Gaal may have to keep an eye out for two candidates, as rumors claiming that the Dutchman will be replaced at the end of this season – if an embarrassing defeat does not give rise to an early layoff – grow in momentum.

Speculations have long tipped former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to replace his former tutor, with the Special One himself hinting to reporters in Singapore that he may make his return to football at the end of this season with a new club.

However, British tabloid The Sun previously reported that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is also in the running for the managerial position at Old Trafford, should Van Gaal get axed, with his revolutionary work at White Hart Line this campaign catching the Red Devils’ eyes.

Now, whilst speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport (as per Sport Witness), Pochettino refused to rule out rumors linking him with the 20-time English Premier League champions.

The Argentine said: "These are rumours and I never comment on the rumours."

Earlier this month, Tottenham Labour MP David Lammy claimed on The Spurs Show podcast that former Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted to him that he rated Pochettino as the best in England.

However, it remains to be seen whether Pochettino will even contemplate the idea of leaving the north London giants, talking rather passionately about his ongoing project to inject young blood into the club to the Italian newspaper.

"It's something that reflects the history of the club and English culture. The foundations were laid for a long-term project. The presence of a few players over the age of 25 guarantees the right balance."
