The DFB Pokal enters its Quarter-final stage, with Die Werkself and Die Werderaner looking for a spot among the top four. Check out our preview for this game below.

The German Cup continues after a two-month hiatus, and the first Quarter finals clash will feature two teams with different goals. On one side of the pitch will be Bayer Leverkusen, one of the most in-form sides in the German top flight, fighting to claim their spot in next year's UEFA Champions League. On the other side, Werder Bremen will try to bring back the good old days, when they were fighting to win titles and not struggling to avoid relegation.

Bayer Leverkusen defeated Unterhaching in the tournament's previous round, while Werder Bremen approved a tougher challenge by defeating Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-3 back in December.

Bayer Leverkusen

Roger Schmidt's side is currently enjoying a seven-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, but they still lack consistency to keep adding victories to their tally. Leverkusen has played three Bundesliga matches in 2016, drawing twice and winning one, but with key aspects of the game keeping them together. Die Werkself have managed to keep two consecutive clean sheets for the first time this season, including last Saturday's draw against Bayern Munich. Up front, Javier Hernández's fine form has hoisted the Mexican striker as one of the most lethal in the German top flight, currently ranking 4th in the goal scoring chart.

Werder Bremen

Even if there's still time to keep fighting to avoid relegation, Viktor Skrypnyk's side needs an ego boost to keep themselves playing in the German top flight, and this game could very well help to build their hopes up. Die Werderaner have lost two out of the last four games they've played, including a baffling 5-1 loss against Borussia Moenchengladbach last Friday. Any chances of progression the team may have will rely on what Peruvian veteran Claudio Pizarro can do, as the South American striker has found the way into the all-time Bundesliga goal scoring list.

Head to head

During these teams latest six matchups, Bayer Leverkusen has edged Werder Bremen three times. Werder Bremen has won a couple of games, and their latest draw came in September of 2012, when both sides treated their fans with a thrilling 3-3 draw. Their latest matchup was held on September 26th, with Bayer taking all the points home with a 3-0 away win.
