The Bavarians enjoy a comfortable lead at the top of the table but have not been at their supreme best in recent games. Much of this is down to the injury crisis at the club which has reduced Bayern to just one fit centre back in the form of Holger Badstuber.
Medhi Benatia has had an injury plagued scene this time around and has seen more time on the sidelines than on the pitch. Javi Martinez who is also capable of playing at the heart of the defence has also been struggling for fitness. Franck Ribery had been out for most of last year whereas Mario Gotze has just retained to training after a lengthy lay off.
The injury crisis at the club has prompted Bayern Munich president Karl Hopfner to claim that his club are going through a difficult time. He was especially disappointed with the injury sustained by Jerome Boateng labeling it as a "great shame".
"Pep Guardiola is very well asking for advice from our medical department, and he listens to it. Maybe we are only going through a bad patch," Hopfner said.
"It's a great shame. Honestly, I have to say that it's especially bad for Jerome Boateng."
To make matters worse, Serdar Tasci who was signed on loan from Spartak Moscow on Monday has also reportedly suffered an injury and is doubtful for the match on Saturday.
Leverkusen on the other hand have been inconsistent as of late and will have to pull their socks if they are to finish in the top three this season. They will be resting their hopes on top scorer Javier Hernández who has been in lethal form this season and will be hoping to do well against an injury plagued Bayern defence.
They will have history on their side with Bayern having managed just a single victory in their last eight games in Leverkusen in all competitions.
