With 25 points so far, Belenenses do not look in danger of relegation, but at the same time, do not look likely to secure a European football spot for the 2016/2017 season.
Last campaign saw the team, currently led by Julio Velasquez finish in a solid sixth and for those who know their Portuguese football, they will be aware that Belensenses is part of a special elite group: they were the first team other than the "Big Three" to win the Primeira Liga, albeit back during the 1945/1946 term. The last time Benfica were defeated was on October 25th of last year when they were dispatched 3-0 by Sporting CP, meaning that the reigning Primeira Liga champions have picked up a total of 37 points out of 39 since then.
The reverse fixture between the Eagles and their upcoming opponents concluded in a 6-0 rout for Benfica and in the form they are in currently, Belenenses could be indeed in for a long 90 minutes on Friday.
