This might be an excellent Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, who sit unchallenged with a massive 24 point lead over the rest of the table, but not so much for some of the teams who were expected to battle them for the title. The nearest competitor, Monaco has 39 points, whilst Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais combined have less than PSG; the former having earned 31 and the latter 30.
As such, with the title race already decided, the battle for European football spots is well on, and there are as many as ten or eleven sides who are jostling for either a Champions League or Europa League berth. This includes Bordeaux, who sit in seventh with 33 points, and Lyon will be keen on closing the three point gap as they welcome them to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday evening.

Les Gones once were the premier side in French football, winning an unprecedented seven Ligue 1 titles between 2002 and 2008. Since then, they have been bumped off their pedestal by PSG, but nonetheless managed to finish second during the 2014/2015 Ligue 1 campaign. However, this term has not been a good one for Lyon, who finished last in their Champions League group stage and have struggled domestically. A three-match winning streak that saw them climb to second was followed by a six-match bad patch of form that saw them earn just one point out of those games; as a result, they tumbled down the table into ninth.
Despite trying to arrest this slide by trouncing Troyes 4-1 in their first game in their newly minted stadium last month, Lyon continue to find positive results difficult to come by and now sit in 11th place. They will be coming into this match having earned just four points out of their first four games and suffered yet another disappointing defeat - their sixth on the road this season - against Bastia last weekend.
French international Alexandre Lacazette, who plundered an impressive 27 Ligue 1 goals - 31 in all competitions - last term, has struggled to reach those same heights due to injury issues and has netted just seven Ligue 1 goals thus far this season. The 24-year-old's struggles are indeed symptomatic of Lyon's overall woes, as the team has scored 28 goals at this juncture and have lost seven out of their past ten matches and overall have picked up a disappointing five points (one win, two draws) from 30 during this time frame.
Bruno Genesio will have to make do without the services of Bakary Kone, Nabil Fekir, and Rafael due to injury. Although their upcoming opponents Bordeaux sit three points ahead, the visitors have been quite poor on the road, with just one win in their 11 away games this season.
Bordeaux
As noted previously, Les Girondins have been a team of two parts this season. Whilst Willy Sagnol's side have been impressive at home, with just two defeats in their first 12 matches, their inconsistent form has seen them drop valuable points away from their home ground. Bordeaux were quite active during this recent transfer window, notably bringing in experienced defender Mathieu Debuchy on loan from Arsenal, and the French international could be thrown into action as early as this Wednesday's game.
The visitors will be coming into this match having picked up three wins and two draws in their last five games, most recently a comfortable 4-0 victory over Rennes. However, they will be contending with a slew of injuries, with Pablo, Isaac Thelin, Nicolas Maurice-Belay, and Cederic Carasso on the treatment table, whilst Nicolas Pallois and Andre Biyogo Poko will sit out due to a ban.
