The Spanish striker has only found the back of the net twice this season, forcing coach Simeone to send him back to AC Milan.

Fernando Torres' playing days with Atletico are about to end, since the Spanish capital side will not make his loan deal permanent.

Sources indicate that coach Diego Simeone has been forced to tell Torres he will have to go back to Milan at the end of the season, following an unsuccessful return to his boyhood club.

Back in January 2015, Torres was unveiled as Los Colchoneros' new striker, trying to add his experience and skills to the goal-shy Atletico side. Despite a thunderous start against Real Madrid, the former Chelsea and Liverpool man failed to replicate his old form, and has only been able to score two goals in the ongoing season.

Torres' chances of earning a spot in next year's roster ended a couple of weeks ago, following FIFA's transfer ban on the Spanish side. With the team able to add players to their squad until the end of this transfer window, reports indicate it's rather unlikely for Atletico to make the loan deal with AC Milan permanent, which will force Torres back to Italy.

The Spanish striker scored only one goal in ten games for Milan during his unsuccessful run with the Rossoneri, and his place with Atletico could be filled with 23-year old striker Borja Bastón, currently on loan with Eibar.

Meanwhile, Torres' agent has revealed his client will decide where he wants to continue his playing career, having offers to play in Europe, China and Qatar.
