Premier League bigwigs Manchester United and Man City are reportedly fighting for the signature of Barcelona superstar Neymar Jr, according to Gazzetta World.
The source reveals that the Brazilian wants to be the main man at the Spanish club, but with the presence of Lionel Messi, whose star keeps shinning brighter every season, Neymar is soon realizing that he might not make it to the top as quick as he would want to.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, are in dire need of a world-class striker to solve the goal-scoring crisis at the club, which has left them at the fifth position in the Premier League after 22 matches. Man City were initially interested in Messi but after the Argentine recently revealed that he had no plans to leave the Catalans, Neymar is widely seen as an easier target.
The report further states that the Red Devils are willing to double Neymar’s annual salary from the £6.7 million he earns at Camp Nou to £15 million if he agrees to move to Old Trafford.
Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has also confirmed that the Red Devils have been in contact with Neymar since December, as reported by the Daily Star:
"They (Man United officials) have been talking in the last month with Neymar's dad, especially in the last weeks, especially during Christmas time.''
"Manchester United told Neymar that they are ready to break any world transfer record fee.”
This comes just a few days after the 23-year-old was linked with a move to their bitter rivals Real Madrid. Los Blancos representatives reportedly held secret meetings with the former Santos man during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich, where a possible transfer was discussed.
It would be interesting to see whether the talented forward will accept the tempting deals or decide to stay with Luis Enrique’s men.
