Despite failing to guide Real Madrid to a major trophy in 2015, star player Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that he was satisfied with his achievements in the just-ended year. He was speaking during the 2015 Ballon d’Or press conference:
“I am happy with my season.’’
“We did not win many trophies, but it was another great year [for me].’’
“So I am very happy.”
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has revealed his love for one of his greatest rivals in football, Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Manchester United man has toppled Messi to the Ballon d’Or twice consecutively and is looking forward to winning it tonight in Zurich.
Messi is hunting for his fifth Ballon d’Or, while Ronaldo is seeking for the fourth. The Portuguese international, who plays for Real Madrid, beat Messi to the Ballon d’Or two successive times in 2013 and 2014, and is looking forward to winning it against tonight.
Speaking to journalists during the Ballon d’Or press briefing, the Argentine revealed:
“I don’t feel envy [towards Ronaldo]. That’s a negative trait.’’
“I like Cristiano. I am the way I am and he is the way that he is.”
On the other hand, fellow Ballon d’Or contestant Neymar Jr revealed that Lionel Messi was his icon:
“I work with Leo every day, so I admire him not only on the pitch, but also off the pitch.’’
He added:
“I have fallen in love with him, he’s an idol and an example.”
Neymar has been nominated for the prestigious award for the first time in his professional career and his looking forward to a surprise win in Zurich.
