Real Madrid could part ways with manager Rafa Benitez today, according to reports from Spain.

Real Madrid are preparing to sack manager Rafael Benitez any moment from now, according to reports from Spain.

The Spanish tactician took over at Real Madrid barely six months ago. The directors of the La Liga giants have been consulting since morning and have finally decided to axe the former Liverpool manager after a disappointing draw with Valencia last weekend.

Club president Florentino Perez has called a press conference to be held on Monday afternoon when he is expected to officially announce Benitez’s sacking.

Additional reports from Madrid also claim that Zinedine Zidane will be promoted as manager of Los Blancos until the end of the season, as the club continues to comb the market for a perfect replacement.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a return to the Spanish club, which now sits at the third position in La Liga standings with 37 points, four off league-leaders Atletico Madrid.

Benitez has failed to beat any of Real Madrid’s big matches away from home this season, having lost to Villareal, Sevilla and Barcelona, and secured a point against Atletico Madrid, PSG and Valencia.

The news also created quite a buzz on Twitter as fans await the big announcement any minute from now:
