The Reds have been on a disappointing run as of late having managed a victory in just one of their last five matches, but will be in a buoyant mood after a victory over league leaders Leicester City last time out. They will now be looking for a second victory in a row when they face a struggling Sunderland side.

The Black Cats have been on an abysmal run having suffered defeats in all of their last four matches. They have shipped seven goals combined in their last two fixtures against Man City and Chelsea but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expecting a steelier response from Sam Allardyce's men.

“I think Sam Allardyce said after the last game against City, not only about three goals in ten minutes, but talked about what they have to do in their next game as they lost concentration in defence,” the Reds boss said.

“Everybody can imagine what will happen at Sunderland. I think they will go back to the roots and we know what is waiting for us. We will be prepared.”

Klopp hailed his side for showcasing a different side to their game during their victory over the Foxes last time out and indicated that they must be tactically astute in their upcoming match as well.

“What we saw with [Saturday’s 1-0 victory over] Leicester was how it’s always about fighting for second balls and [how] they are really strong when they win these,” he said.

“They are really quick in transition and in mind with really good solutions. I think second balls will be a big thing to think about for Sunderland, too.

Divock Origi was withdrawn during Liverpool's last outing due to a hamstring injury and is expected to miss out but Jordon Ibe is expected to return to the side after recovering from illness. Klopp will however be unable to field a number of players including the likes of James Milner, Jordan Rossiter, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Sturridge.
For Sunderland, captain John O'Shea has been sidelined with a calf problem whereas Sebastian Larsson and Younes Kaboul are also expected to miss out.
