Bayern Munich come into this fixture more relaxed after sealing a first place finish in Group F of the Champions League.

The German giants, however, have a point to prove when they face Dinamo Zagreb at Stadion Maksimir. Pep Guardiola’s men suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach and the Spanish tactician will want to prove that they have overcome the loss. The loss against their hosts last weekend in the Bundesliga was Bayern’s third in all competitions this season, something that makes them standout as one of the most feared teams in Europe.

As they embark on their first ever trip to Croatia’s capital, the Bavarians know very well that their pride is at stake should they lose to Zagreb.

On the other hand, their hosts have won four out of their last five matches in all competitions and will be looking to extend the impressive run against the German giants. They even managed to beat their arch-rivals Hajduk Split on Saturday.  The Croatians have nothing to lose in this fixture since they are already bundled out of the competition, but they would want to officially bow out with pride by beating the Bavarians.

This match also holds special memories for Zagreb’s trainer Zoran Mamic, who featured for Bayern Leverkusen and Bochum in the Bundesliga during his playing career. Throughout that period, he never secured a victory over Bayern Munich and he will be hoping to achieve exactly that as a manager of the Croatian side.

Dynamo have a poor record against German opposition in the Champions League. They have not beaten a German side in their last 11 meetings and have only managed to secure two draws.

Team news

Dinamo Zagreb

The hosts will miss the services of Gordon Schildenfeld and Armin Hodzic while Marco Rog is a booking away from a ban. Mamic could retain the same team that beat their bitter rivals last weekend.

Bayern Munich

Holger Badstuber is suspended for Wednesday’s match after being shown the red card in the previous Champions League match against Olympiakos. The visitors could also miss the services of David Alaba, Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara. After scoring in last Saturday’s defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach as a substitute, Franck Ribbery could return to the first 11 on Wednesday.
