The Citizens have been on a poor run having suffered three defeats in their last five matches in all competitions. They were at the receiving end of an upset when Stoke City got the better of them as Marko Arnautović's brace gave the Potters a 2-0 win.
Manuel Pellegrini's men now return to the European competition with a breather having already confirmed qualification to the next round. However Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne has urged his teammates to put forth a good showing against what he believes is a good side.
"From our perspective, we just need to win this game and see where it takes us. We need to react to our loss at Stoke so this is an opportunity for us to do that quickly," De Bruyne told the official City website.
Having played in the Bundesliga in the past, the 24 year old has spoken highly of his opponents on Tuesday especially after they picked a win over Bayern Munich over the weekend.
"They are probably about where they should be at the moment in the Bundesliga. They develop young players into future stars and when they are established they generally move to other clubs, so it’s not easy for them but that said, I think they have a really good side just now.
"They are now playing the way they were last season, as their win over Bayern proves. They have recovered well from a difficult start and if they have a good second round of Bundesliga matches I think they should achieve a top-four finish again.
The Citizens can still finish top of the group, however that will depend on the other fixture between Juventus and Sevilla.
"It's going to be difficult to finish as group winners but we have to give ourselves the best chance of that happening by beating Monchengladbach.
Monchengladbach on the other hand are on a tremendous run having not tasted defeat in their last 13 matches in all competitions. Their last defeat however came at the hands of Manchester City and they will be looking for retribution this time around.
City will be without several key players including the likes of Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure as well as captain Vincent Kompany.
