Former Liverpool assistant coach claims Manchester United teenage sensation Anthony Martial is better than Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

The Manchester United sensation moved from Monaco to Old Trafford for £36 million, a world record fee for a teenage footballer. Despite Man United’s disappointing performances this season, the 19-year-old has shown some flashes of brilliance for his new club, but has so far lacked the right support to explore his full potential.

He even scored against bitter rivals Liverpool on his debut for Manchester United back in September at Old Trafford. The goal was quite similar to one of Henry’s best goals against The Reds when he was still playing for Arsenal.  As a result, many fans and pundits alike tipped the teenager to succeed the Arsenal legend.

Darmiano, who has also coached Southampton, Juventus, Fulham and most recently Inter Milan, claims that the Man United youngster is better than his French counterpart in some areas.

Speaking to France Football, the well-travelled manager revealed:

''Both (Martial and Henry) have the capacity to be a constant threat, to knacker you out,"

"For defenders, it’s hard to follow them for 90 minutes. Then, in their gait and their way of running, there are real similarities.’’

"Like Thierry, Martial has this slender, relaxed and fluid side of him. It’s so obvious as soon as you see him on the pitch.’’

“Martial is way more comfortable than Thierry in small spaces and even with his back to goal.''

"I find him, for example, more explosive, sharper, more lively over two or three metres and in his changes of direction. Henry's game was more ‘control, push the ball forward, then accelerate’."

This season, the young Martial has proved to be more lethal as a winger than a striker, something that Darmiano also noted:

“Even if it was his natural role at first, he quickly realised he wouldn’t be an out-and-out striker, that he would feel better on the left to have more freedom, space and efficiency, to express himself better and cut in on his right-foot more easily.''

"Basically, make it easier to score or assist.”

The former Monaco man has score three goals for the Red Devils this season in nine Premier League appearances, and provided one assist.
