Portland aims to clinch its first ticket to the MLS Cup Final. No team has been able to come back from a two-goal deficit since 2004.

The Major League Soccer Western Conference final reaches its second leg and the Portland Timbers are coming into FC Dallas territory with a 3-1 lead after the first 90 minutes. A two goal lead may seem like more than enough for he visiting side but the locals want to take advantage of closing up the series at Toyota Stadium.

FC Dallas Preview

FC Dallas is in a Conference Final for the first time since Oscar Pareja became the manager of the team. They were the best team in the West after the regular season and barely missed conquering the Shields Cup for the best team in the overall standings. After 34 games, they had 60 points with 18 wins, ten losses and six draws.

They need two goals and that Jesse Gonzalez can keep a clean sheet in order to advance to the next round. They can find confidence in the fact that the team has not lost at home since August 13 and that they were the side with the most wins at home throughout the regular season (13).

Mauro Diaz shined despite the loss in Portland and hopes to be the man that leads a young roster to a MLS Cup Final. The 24-year old Argentinian grew up playing for River Plate and has become a Dallas-favorite throughout his time in the United States. Fabian Castillo, is expected to deliver another great performance in front of the home crowd in what could be his last game as an FC Dallas player.

The team would not be in this stage if it wasn't for the heroic performance of their goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez in the Conferernce semifinal. The 20-year-old goalkeeper had some crucial saves against Seattle and that included stopping two penalty shots during the penalty shootout. His performances throughout the season have been impressive and while he did not have a good night in Portland, in Dallas the story may be different.

Portland Timbers Preview

The Portland Timbers are looking to get to their first MLS Cup Final ever and they have a lead that makes them feel like they are already there. The two goal lead will be hard to snatch from them, considering the fact that on the road they were close to perfect. Portland never lost a game away from home since August 30.

There is a stat that says that no team has been able to overcome a two-goal deficit in the playoffs since 2004 and Portland wants to extend that number. They got their third goal of the night at home in stoppage time and will have to play like a fortress for the next 90 minutes, while Dallas' defense may be vulnerable.

Fanendo Adi is the best scorer among the two teams in this series, with 17 goals under his belt, he is someone that the Dallas defense should fear. The team has also Darlington Nagbe, who recently got his first minutes with the USMNT just months after getting his U.S. residency approved.

The last time that Portland visited Dallas, things did not go so well for the visiting team. The game ended with a 4-1 scoreline in favor of the Toros, but that was back in July. Out of the last four games between both teams, Portland has won three of them, including the game from last Saturday.

Interesting Numbers

Playing at home, FC Dallas has an average of 1.9 goals scored per game. Portland is on a 1.1 average on games played on the road while conceding 1.4 goals per game away from home. FC Dallas has conceded 45 goals since the season started and Portland only 42. However, the home team has 56 goals scored in the same amount of time and the Timbers trail them with 48.
