Man United need to beat PSV to qualify for the last round of 16 in this year’s UEFA Champions League.

The Red Devils started on a slow note against their Group B opponents but after their 2-1 loss to PSV away from home back in September, the English club bounced back with crucial wins against Wolfsburg and CSKA Moscow which propelled them to the top of the table. This match comes at a time when former PSV man Memphis Depay seemsto have rediscovered his goal-scoring boots in the Premier League. The Netherlands international scored the opening goal for Manchester United against Watford at the Vicarage Road Stadium.

The away side won the game 2-1 courtesy of a last-minute own goal thanks to a sterling effort from Bastian Schweinsteiger in front of goal. Memphis also scored in the first leg fixture against his former side in Netherlands, but his effort could not help his new club win the match.

Back to the Champions League, PSV coach Philip Cocu will want to prove a point against his former manager Luis Van Gaal. Cocu played under the Dutch tactician at FC Barcelona.

Man United come into this match after a crucial morale-boosting win over their weekend Premier League opponents. Prior to the game, the Van Gaal’s men had not conceded a goal in 641 minutes of football. PSV, on the other hand, are looking for their first away win in this season’s campaign after losing to CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg away. Over the weekend, the Dutch champions threw away a 1-0 lead against struggling Willem II, but managed to secure a 2-2 draw at full-time.

Players to watch

Luuk de Jong is PSV’s leading top scorer. He has scored 11 goals in 12 games, most recently during their league match against Willem II. However, in the Champions League, he has been quite silent, netting just once, during his side’s victory over Wolfsburg at home.

Eyes on the price: De Jong is the deadliest forward in the current PSV squad

Memphis depay, a former PSV man, will want to prove a point against his former club, and manager Van Gaal after missing several Premier League and Champions League matches this season due to poor form. He scored a goal in the first leg fixture he could unlock their opponent's defense if his weekend performance against Watford is anything to go by.

Depay needs to prove himself to the Manchester United fraternity if he starts against his former side
