Premier League giants Manchester City have been boosted by the return of their star striker Sergio Aguero.

Aguero, 27, passed a late fitness test and will be in contention for a starting role in this weekend’s crucial fixture against Liverpool. However, despite the good news, the home team will miss the services of their captain Vincent Kompany, who is suffering from a calf injury.

Aguero has not played for The Citizens for the last six weeks due to a hamstring injury and his availability on Saturday will give coach Manuel Pellegrini more attacking options upfront. City will also miss the services of their playmaker David Silva who is suffering from an ankle injury and former Arsenal man Samir Nasri.

Manchester City confirmed the news via Twitter

Speaking to journalists during a pre-match conference, Pelegrini explained:

''David (Silva) continues with some small sprain in his ankle so it's a risk for him to play. Unfortunately also, Samir Nasri is injured. Bony and Vincent Kompany are also injured.''

''One of the merits of this team is not just to depend on one player but of course our team is better with Sergio.''

The last time the Premier League Golden Boot winner for the 2014/2015 season came back from injury to face Liverpool, he was on the scoresheet. Watch the beautiful goal below.

Aguero will most likely partner with Raheem Sterling in the hunt for goals for City. Sterling, 20, has been in great form for his new club and looks set to face his former side at the Etihad Stadium. As the most expensive English player in history, all eyes will be on the former Liverpool man when he features against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Before picking up the injury, the former Atletico Madrid forward had scored six goals for Manchester City in the Premier League, one League Cup goal, and one Champions League goal.
