Football’s world governing body leader suffered “a nervous shock” due to stress, according to reports.

Fighting to save a tarnished career appears to have taken its toll on FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

The leader of football’s world governing body has found himself embroiled in several scandals ranging from the awarding of Russia and Qatar to alleged bribe allegations involving Michel Platini and £1.35m worth of money.

On top of all of that, the 79-year-old has now landed himself in hospital after suffering “a small breakdown”, having initially paid a visit to the doctors for a check-up last week.

Blatter’s lawyer revealed last week that the suspended FIFA president went to hospital due to stress-related issues, but was expected to make a full recovery shortly. He will now remain in hospital until Tuesday.

Blatter, alongside UEFA president Michel Platini, were suspended for 90-days by FIFA’s ethics committee after Sepp transferred £1.35m into the French legend’s account, though both claim that the money was service payment.

Platini served as Blatter’s adviser from 1998 to 2002; however, the lack of any contract between the two for the payment has landed them in hot water, and the fact that it occurred in 2011.

This suspension ended both Blatter’s and Platini’s hopes of running for the upcoming presidential elections, making them ineligible to toss their hats into the race in time for the deadline.
