Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich approach this fixture having learned bitter lessons during their first leg match away at the Emirates Stadium.

The German giants have a point to prove against their English counterparts after a disappointing and humiliating 2-0 away loss. On the other hand, the Gunners know very well that they need to secure maximum points at the Allianz Arena to revive their hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stage of this season’s Champions League campaign. But Arsene Wenger’s men have an upper hand judging from their past two trips to Germany. However, in each of the two meetings away from home, Arsenal were facing a Bayern Munich side that was already assured of qualifying for the next stage.

What makes this fixture unique is the fact that the Gunners had earlier humiliated the Bavarians in the first leg at a time when the German club seemed unstoppable. They will therefore approach this fixture knowing that apart from the crucial points needed, their pride is at stake should they lose to their English rivals back-to-back.

Arturo Vidal: We will show Arsenal the real Bayern Munich

Vidal vows Bayern will beat Arsenal

Arsenal sit at the third place in Group F and need a convincing win in Munich to avoid depending on the results from other matches in the group to find out their fate. In their last two meetings away to the Bavarian side, the London club has managed a draw and a win. Arsenal’s confidence has also been boosted by their recent form, having won five consecutive games in the Premier League. Despite the recurrent injury crisis, they still managed to secure a convincing 3-0 away win at Swansea, a venue that has denied many Premier League sides maximum points.

On the other hand, for the first time this season, Pep Guardiola’s men failed to win a match when they faced Eintracht Frankfurt. Ever since the shocking loss in England, Bayern have slowed down their tempo and seem less ruthless in front of goal. But on Wednesday, they will be looking to avenge the first-leg humiliation away from home.
