With 9 clean sheets in 12 games, and having conceded only 3 goals all season, Los Blancos are ready to reward their Costa Rican custodian.

There appears to be a silver lining in Real Madrid’s failed attempts to sign David De Gea over the summer.

Los Blancos chased after the Manchester United goalkeeper in the summer’s biggest transfer saga, with the Liga BBVA giants even emptying Iker Casillas’ locker in a bid to make space for the former Atletico Madrid custodian.

However, despite reaching an agreement with the English Premier League side, the deal collapsed in the dying minutes of the transfer window due to a faulty fax machine, which sparked a blame-game between the two European heavyweights.

However, the outcome has worked out for both sides, with Keylor Navas proving to be crucial to Les Merengues’ lineup this season. The Costa Rican shot-stopper’s performance between the sticks has earned him praise this season.

Navas set a record in their 3-0 win over Levante on October 17, becoming the first ever Real Madrid goalkeeper to keep clean sheets in the club’s first official five home games, and earned plaudits for his heroics in Saturday’s 3-1 triumph over Celta Vigo.

As a result, according to MARCA, the Spanish Primera Division leaders are planning on rewarding Navas with a new and improved contract, which will be tabled and signed before the end of the year, though his new salary or contract duration were not mentioned.

The 28-year-old has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season and has only conceded three goals, keeping 9 clean sheets.

Nonetheless, the Real Madrid’s determination to award Navas with a new contract does not mean they’ve given up on De Gea, claims the report. Furthermore, according to SPORT, president Florentino Perez is not yet sold on Navas’ qualities despite his stellar performance, and will thus return for the Red Devils goalkeeper.
