As FC Barcelona prepares to face the newly-crowned champions of Belarus, all eyes will be on Neymar Jr., who pumped four goals past Rayo Vallecano last Saturday.
But the Belarusian champions are ready to prove a point against Barcelona after demolishing Italian giants AS Roma 3-2 at home. This was the fourth consecutive home victory for BATE in the competition, including the qualifiers.

Team news

FC BATE last faced The Catalans in the group stage of the 2011/2012 Champions League, but lost both fixtures with a 9-0 aggregate. The Belarusian side will approach the game without the services of Maksim Zhavnerchick, who is out with an ankle injury, and Vitali Rodionov, who has knee problems. BATE will also miss the services of former Barcelona winger Aliaksandr Hleb and defender Kaspars Dubra due to injury.

Barcelona will be motivated by their huge weekend win over Rayo Vallecano and the return of Thomas Vermaelen from injury. However, the Spanish giants will lack the services of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Rafinha.

Manager’s views

Aleksandr Yermakovich: "I can't say BATE are ready to beat everyone – today our plan worked [against Roma] but I can't say it'll be the same tomorrow. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We need to take it step by step. We were solid for 60–70 minutes. I don't distinguish between defenders and forwards, because we attack as a team and defend as a team. We talked a lot before the game about psychology, which is a key factor for us,'' he told UEFA.com

Luis Enrique: ''Given the standard of the competition, there are no favourites in games like these. Everyone can match everyone else. BATE have won the Belarusian league for the tenth time in a row, which shows their domestic dominance. We are group leaders but BATE are just one point behind.

We don't anticipate an easy game. Four years ago Barcelona beat BATE twice but a lot of things have changed since. Just look at Borisov's first half against Roma – that was impressive.’’

He added:

''We have conceded quite a lot of goals recently, but not many have been the result of bad mistakes. Our opponents have been lucky.’’
