The absences of Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi could give Tevez a starting role. With a goal from Tevez, Argentina qualified to the Copa America semi-finals.

Sergio Aguero could not stand long in the spot of Lionel Messi as he was carried out in a stretcher during the game against Ecuador only 22 minutes after it started. Now, the third man in line is ready to shine under the spotlight in a game that Argentina must win, that man goes by the name of Carlos Tevez.

The Boca Juniors striker is calling on the help from all his teammates to avoid a second straight loss in the beginning of the World Cup Qualifiers. The same man that got Argentina into the final of the Copa America via a penalty kick, should be making another start for his national team since the game against Mexico last month.

At 31, Tevez could become the leader of Argentina while key players like Marcos Rojo, Aguero and Messi return. Messi suffered an injury to his knee during the game against Las Palmas at Camp Nou on September 26. Aguero suffered a strained hamstring and could be back by the beginning of next month while Rojo is dealing with the same type of problem.

Gerardo Martino has told the press not to expect a Messi-like performance from Tevez. They are different players and do things differently. The veteran striker wants to help his team earn the first three points in their road to Russia 2018.

"We lacked attitude on Thursday and that is something we spoke about. The team did not turn up at any time and that is what most concerns us," Tevez said. "We didn't start our qualifiers on the right foot but we have another chance on Tuesday."

The return of Messi is expected to be ready by November 22, the date in which Real Madrid and Barcelona will meet for El Clasico. He would also miss the game against Argentina in early November. Aguero may not have to wait that long as his return date is set for October 25, before his club, Manchester City, plays Manchester United in the derby.

El Apache could be playing along with Angel di Maria and Angel Correa in the attacking third for Argentina. Last time that both sides met was actually in the semi-finals of the Copa America where La Albiceleste destroyed Paraguay 6-1 and all Messi, Aguero and Tevez had a chance to play. Tevez came in for Aguero in the 73rd minute.
