Fatih Terim's side won 2-0 to leapfrog Netherlands, as their hopes of making next year's tournament in France took one step closer.

After Netherlands beat Kazakhstan 2-1 in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, pressure was on Turkey to win their match on the exact same day in order to keep their hopes of making next year’s tournament alive.

Iceland and Czech Republic sit in first and second, with Netherlands and Turkey battling it out for third spot and that precious playoff which could grant one nation’s dreams of booking their ticket to France.

Georginio Wijnaldum and Wesley Sneijder found the back of the net to hand The Oranje a vital three points. Ay Yıldızlar, however, responded shortly afterward, as Barcelona superstar Arda Turan inspired Fatih Terim’s crew to a 2-0 victory over Czech Republic.

Turan and Co. were unable to break down their opposition’s defense, with the first half ending in deadlock. It was not until the 62nd minute that Turkey’s Selcuk Inan gave his team the lead, finding the back of the net courtesy of a spot kick.

18 minutes later and Hakan Calhanoglu doubled the away side’s lead, courtesy of an Arda Turan assist, as Turkey came out of the Prague tie with all three points.

With only one round of fixtures remaining, Turkey need only a point to grab the precious playoff spot, with 15 points in group A, though Danny Blind’s men are breathing down their neck with 13 points.
