El Tri's coach Ricardo Ferretti confirmed that the Los Angeles Galaxy player will miss Saturday's game with a muscular injury.

Mexico will not have one of their key players for Saturday's matchup against the United States. Coach Ricardo Ferretti revealed today that "Gio" came down with an injury during the L.A. Galaxy's last game, forcing the striker to miss the crucial match against the Stars and Stripes, which will determine which side represents CONCACAF in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

El Tri's interim coach confirmed he will have to call up someone to substitute the former Villarreal player.

"Gio won't be available. He just got here, but he was complaining about a muscular problem. We have to figure out who will take his place for our next games," Ferretti stated.

L.A. Galaxy confirmed the news via a press release.

"Dos Santos suffered a muscle strain Sunday at CenturyLink Field against Seattle Sounders FC and will remain with LA this week. Dos Santos has started in eight MLS regular season match for the Galaxy since joining the club from Villarreal this summer. He has recorded three goals and four assists in regular season competition," the team's website informed.

This was the first call up for Dos Santos after winning the 2015 Gold Cup with Mexico this summer, missing El Tri's recent games against Trinidad & Tobago and Argentina. Gio's presence will be missed with Mexico, as he recorded one of the best goals in the heated rivalry's history.
