Bayern Munich will begin their European journey with an away trip to Greece where they face Olympiakos Piraeus. The Bavarians have had a perfect start to their campaign so far having won all four of their league matches. They picked up a 2-1 win over Augsburg last time out thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski and Muller.

Bayern will be without a string of star players for Wednesday's match including the likes of Arjen Robben, Medhi Benatia, Holger Badstuber, Jan Kirchhoff and Franck Ribery. However Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is adamant that his side will not be using their injury crisis as an excuse on Wednesday.

"It won't be easy but we always play to win, whoever we are up against. The main thing is for us to start with victory on Wednesday and take it from there. We have a few injuries but we remain a formidable side nonetheless," he said.

The German champions are expected to be at the receiving end of  hostile reception from Olympiakos fans but Lewandowski is confident that Bayern can thrive under it.

"The fans are very passionate here. I can't wait for the match. The atmosphere is a factor, but we have to remain focused and get the result we want. It won't be easy."

Captain Philipp Lahm has predicted a difficult night for the German champions but has stressed the importance of a winning start.

"We are very much looking forward to it and want the first three points. With their fans supporting them they will give everything they can, so it will be dangerous for us. We have to be focused from the beginning, then it can only be a win for us. I know Olympiacos are very strong at home, but it's important to start with a victory - we are 100 per cent ready," he said.

"We know how difficult it will be. But it is possible. The team has the quality for it."

Pep Guardiola has won the Champions League twice as a manager but has failed to do so with Bayern Munich. The German side was knocked out by Pep's former side Barcelona and the Spaniard will be hoping he can guide his side to European glory this time around.

Defending Greek champions Olympiakos on the other hand have been in inspiring form having registered wins in all their three league matches so far, conceding just once in the process.
