Who qualified for the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League?

Three teams - Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon, and Monaco - all secured a spot in the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League after finishing top, second, and third respectively. However, only PSG and Lyon will be actually featuring in the group stage kicking off this month. Monaco, who finished as runners-up during the 2004 Champions League, easily brushed aside Swiss outfit Young Boys, but were edged out narrowly 4-3 on aggregate by Valencia for a coveted place in this season's UCL group stage.

Who qualified for the 2015-16 UEFA Europa League?

For the first time in their history, Monaco will be featuring in the 2015-16 UEFA Europa League (despite having featured in the UEFA Cup group stage). They will be joined by Marseille - to date the only French side to win a major continental trophy - as well as Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux, who finished fifth and sixth behind Marseille, so Ligue 1 will have a total of four representatives in Europe's second-tier competition.

What were the biggest summer transfers?

Most of the 20 sides playing in the 2015-16 edition of Ligue 1 made some moves in the summer transfer market, but the one that generated the most attention was PSG's acquisition of Angel Di Maria. Les Parisiens were reportedly close to securing the Argentinian international's signature last summer, but were thwarted by FFP regulations and the 2014 Champions League winner ended up going to Manchester United.

After he spent a frustrating year at Old Trafford, PSG finally have their man, with Di Maria costing them a reported €63 million. Laurent Blanc's side also added a new goalkeeper, German international Kevin Trapp for approximately €9 million from Eintracht Frankfurt as well as young defender Layvin Kurzawa from rival side Monaco for about €25 million.

Speaking of Monaco, they, too added some new faces whilst seeing French duo Geoffrey Kondogbia and Anthony Martial leave for Inter Milan and Manchester United respectively. Two names that will probably be familiar to most fans are AC Milan's Stephan El Shaarawy and Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao, with the attacker and defender joining the ambitious club on loan.

What were the biggest managerial changes before the start of the season?

Unlike some of Europe's other big leagues, there were not too many managerial changes in Ligue 1, with the exceptions of Lille and Marseille. For Lille, they now have Herve Renard - who enjoyed success with both the Ivory Coast and Zambia in the African Cup of Nations - as a replacement for Rene Girard. Meanwhile, Marseille said au revior to Argentinian tactician Marcelo Bielsa and had assistant coach Franck Passi serve as caretaker until appointing former Real Madrid star Michel last month.
