A 3-1 win over Poland allowed Germany to go top of Group D, with the defending world champions now enjoying a two point lead over second placed Poland. Bayern Munich stars enjoyed a fruitful outing in front of the goal with Mario Gotze getting on the score sheet in either half, whereas Thomas Muller also registered a goal. Their club teammate Robert Lewandowski also got on the score sheet but that could not earn his side any points.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil who put forth a star performance in that much spoke of his team's excellent display against Poland but expects a stern test when Germany face Scotland on Monday.

"Overall you have to say that we earned the victory," he said. "We dominated for long periods of the game, we created chances and we scored some good goals. But we also allowed Poland a couple of chances – that’s somewhere we have to improve. All in all, it was a good day. It could be a difficult game in Scotland, and we’re prepared for that."

Mario Gotze who's future at Bayern Munich was put in doubt after being linked to several clubs in the summer expressed delight over his performance and stressed the importance of earning three points.

"We absolutely wanted to go home with three points and as group leaders. It could have gone much worse - also for me personally."

Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus who has not represented his national side since September last year has suffered another setback after suffering a toe injury in training and has been ruled out of the match against Scotland.

Elsewhere Romania who lost their top spot in Group F to Northern Ireland will be keen to regain it. They were against Hungary last time out in a match which ended 0-0. Greece on the other hand are the only side in the group yet to record a victory. Things got bad to worse for them after the 2004 Euro Champions suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Finalnd.
