The Red Devils recorded a convincing 3-1 victory in the reverse leg as Memphis Depay rose to the occasion scoring his first goal for the club, this was after experienced midfielder Carrick had scored an own goal which gave the visitors the lead. The Dutch youngster struck again before half time and Fellaini scored a goal on his first appearance of the season as United took a commanding two goal lead.

A momentous task now awaits last season's Belgian league runners-up but manager Michel Preud'homme is looking for a miracle in the upcoming match.

"Miracles happen sometimes, but they are two goals in front and they are a very professional team," Preud'homme told reporters.

"To get a miracle, you need to be perfect and you need the other to not play at his best potential. We have a lot of players out, too.

"If we want to have a chance, we have to be perfect. It will be very difficult, but let's pray.

"This United team can live with pressure.

"They have it each day, each minute in each game. When you see this team playing, they play on their quality, against Tottenham, against Newcastle, against us. They keep doing the same.

"I don't think they'll have more pressure if we score, but it's important for our confidence if we score."

The Red Devils will once again be without defender Phil Jones whereas Brugge will be unable to make use of the services of Mechele who earned his marching orders in the first leg. Whereas captain Timmy Simons has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
