Arouca vs Benfica live streaming info & TV listings - August 23, 2015

August 22, 2015 By Michelle Bonsu
After barely escaping relegation last season, Arouca will match their wits against the reigning Primeira Liga champions as they welcome Benfica on Sunday, August 23rd. Here are some live TV listings & online streaming options for Arouca vs. Benfica.

To put it simply, this summer has been somewhat of a roller coaster for Benfica fans. Following the shock departure of talismanic Jorge Jesus to bitter rivals Sporting, new coach Rui Vitória arrived on June 15th after signing a three year contract. However, his tenure at Portugal's most decorated club did not start off as he liked. During their summer pre-season preparations the Águias won just one out of their five games - a penalty shoot-out against Mexican outfit Club America - and lost to PSG, Serie A side Fiorentina, and New York Red Bulls during the International Champions Cup.

And to add insult to injury, Benfica had to settle for a runners-up medal as their former manager guided Sporting to a 1-0 win in the Portuguese Super Cup. So, given this, the pressure was pretty high on the new manager as the reigning Primeira Liga champions welcomed Estoril, a team that finished 12th in the league last term to the famous Estádio da Luz for matchday one of the 2015/2016 season.

Surprisingly, in the first 70 minutes, Benfica supporters were left frustrated as the team were unable to break down their opponents who were desperate to hold out for a 0-0 draw. Yet, once the floodgates opened in the 74th minute, Estoril was no match as Vitória's men blitzed them with four goals in just 15 minutes to seal top spot in the table on goal difference.

With Sporting and Porto also winning their opening games, Benfica have a good opportunity to make it a perfect six points out of six as they take on Arouca away from home this Sunday. For many Portuguese football observers, the Arouquenses have experienced nothing short of a meteoric rise over the past few years. They first made their debut during the 2013/2014 campaign, and although they barely escaped relegation during their sophomore term in the top flight, the hosts have began things well with a 2-0 win over Moreirense this past weekend.

Since edging their way into Portuguese football's upper echelon, Arouca have never won win a single match against title-favorites Benfica. In their six meetings across all competitions, the club, whose home ground only holds 5,000 spectators have lost five and drawn once.

Will it be all one-way traffic at the Estádio Municipal de Arouca? Or will the underdogs be able to spoil Benfica's evening? At the end of 90 minutes, only one team will be able to make it two consecutive wins; alternatively, a draw is not entirely outside the realm of possibility.
