Recent Form

Valencia have been on a disastrous run as of late having lost all of their last five matches, the last of which came at the hands of Roma in a 3-1 defeat.  The mood in the Valencia camp will evidently be less than buoyant but they will be hoping to step up or risk being eliminated from Europe's top tier competition.
Monaco on the other hand have been very impressive in their recent outings having won four of their last five matches, with their most recent outing against Lille ending in a draw. they were involved in a four goal thriller against Young Boys with all the goals scored in a space of just 11 minutes. The French side were able to win that match by a 3-1 score line.

It was highly rated French left back Layvin Kurzawa who opened up the scoring for the French side with debutant Guido Carrillo doubling the lead. Raphael Nuzzolo pulled one back for the Young Boys but Mario Pasalic restored the visitor's two goal lead to make the score 3-1 in his team's favor.

One of Monaco's top signings this summer has been the capture of former AC Milan star Stephan El Shaarawy . The 22 year old has arrived to the French capital on loan and has indicated that it was an easy decision for him to make the switch.

"I feel so much confidence from the club and the coach," El Shaarawy told Milan News. "My decision to sign with Monaco was very quick and easy to make.

"It's incredible the public reception I have received at Monaco. This year I hope to play a lot and be decisive.

The youngster went through a turbulent injury plagued period last season in which he just managed 14 league appearances which yield just three goals. However the Italian is confident he can flourish under the tutelage of head coach Leonardo Jardim.

"Jardim is a good person. He put me at ease, but I have to earn his trust."

Team news

Valencia's star centre back Nicolas Otamendi  who has attracted interest from top Premier League clubs after a commendable campaign last time out has reportedly been omitted from the squad, amidst strong interest from Manchester City.

Monaco have a few injury troubles of their own with French left back Layvin Kurzawa ruled out of the match on Wednesday with an ankle injury. Star midfielder Joao Moutinho will not be available for selection either with the ankle injury he suffered in the match against Lille poised to keep him out of the side for at least six weeks.
