Thomas Tuchel will take charge of his first league game as manager of Borussia Dortmund when they face Borussia Monchengladbach in their first league match of the season. The 41 year old took over from Jurgen Klopp after a disappointing season which saw them miss out on a Champions League game.

Tuchel who managed Mainz before making a move to Dortmund will be happy with his team's preparations for the new season having won six of their seven pre-season games and advancing to the next round in both the Europa League and the DFB-Pokal. However the former Mainz manager has claimed that he still does not know his team well.

"We are getting to know the squad in new situations now - how players deal with our decisions and with team selections," he told a press conference.

"We haven't reached our limit yet, but to be frank, I don't know where our limit is.

"I find that we're on a good path with the short time of preparation in mind, but we still have a lot to work on.

"We will need our best possible performance to win the match. Gladbach are one of the hardest and most complex tasks."

Team news

Dortmund are sweating on the fitness of defenders Neven Subotic and Erik Durm who are both doubtful for the match on Saturday. Adrian Ramos is not fit enough to start for the home side but might find himself a place on the bench.

Gladbach  on the other hand are expected to be without Alvaro Dominguez and Martin Stranzl who will continue to nurse their injuries. Havard Nordtveit's suspension will be carried on from last season which means that they will be a bit depleted at the back.

Important stats

  • Dortmund have suffered just a single defeat in their last 14 matches against their opponents on Saturday. Monchengladbach have picked up just five points in these matches.
  • Their last victory over Dortmund at the Signal-Iduna-Park came back in March 2014 when Gladbach recorded a 2-1 win.
  • The two clubs have met on 86 occasions with both managing 29 wins a piece while 28 of them have ended in draws.
  • The same fixture last season resulted in Dortmund bringing an end to Gladbach's 18 match unbeaten run as they picked up a 1-0 victory.

Player to watch out for

Dortmund have lost a number of star players over the years but are lucky to have Marco Reus still in their ranks. The 26 year old had an injury plagued season last time out and Dortmund will be hoping he can maintain his fitness this season as they hope to return to the Champions League.
