The Mexican midfielder was named the Gold Cup MVP, and led El Tri to win the tournament with six goals in six matches.

After what turned out to be one of the best summers in his life, Mexican midfielder Andres Guardado returned to his duties with PSV Eindhoven. But what was waiting for him when he came back to training was totally unexpected.

As Guardado approached the training ground, the team's fans, staff, and players, lined up in a "Guard of Honor" to pay their respects to Guardado, who won the CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico last Sunday. Being El Tri's go-to guy during all the tournament, Guardado scored six goals for Mexico, including a stunner that cleared the way for their victory over Jamaica in the final match. After this warm welcome, coach Philip Cocu handed him a framed picture of him, lifting the trophy of the North American confederation.

Guardado arrived on loan last season from Valencia, but his all around performances and disposition were highly appreciated by the team's fans and coaches, who gave him the captain's armband during some games. Before the end of the recently concluded season, PSV signed Guardado on a three-year deal.

PSV will enter the 2015-2016 season trying to win back-to-back titles for the first time since 2008. To do that, the Farmers will have to make due without wingman Memphis Depay, who left the team to join Manchester United. The Red-and-white outfit will also be participating in the UEFA Champions League.
