The former French midfielder revealed his intentions earlier today, after a number of rumors pointed him out as Blatter's natural successor.

Michel Platini confirmed today what everyone in the world of football rumored during the past few weeks. UEFA's President will be running to become FIFA's top man in February, once Sepp Blatter's term comes to an end. Allegedly, Platini is supported by the European, Asian, South and North American confederations, which make him the favorite to win the election as of now.

Via a press release, Platini revealed what is the main reason for him to become a candidate, after a number of opportunities in which he declined that honor.

"For the past 50 years, FIFA's only had two presidents. That kind of extreme stability became a paradox in a world where radical changes are lived all the time, and in a sport that has experienced a considerable economic change. I want to give FIFA its credibility back after all the corruption cases in which some of its members have been involved in. It's time to think about a new leadership," Platini stated.

"It's a very personal decision, taken very carefully. I thought about the future of football and my own thoroughly before coming to this decision. I will undertake this task with enthusiasm and conviction, but being humble enough to know that success cannot be achieved by only one person,"Platini added.

The extraordinary FIFA Congress in which the new president will be elected is going to be held in February 2016. Platini is the first official candidate to the position, while others like Luis Figo and Diego Armando Maradona are believed to be next in line to present their bids.
