Guardado was one goal shy of tying with Clint Dempsey as the tournament's leading scorer. They will face the U.S. in a playoff game to decide who goes to the Confederations Cup.

Mexico got past a slow start to win the 2015 Gold Cup final against Jamaica by 3-1. The team managed by Miguel Herrera now adds a seventh title as the king of Concacaf, expanding their lead over the United States, which only has five.

With all the controversy of Mexico's semifinal game against Panama still lingering in the minds of both teams. (Jamaica and Mexico), the game was played under a sold out crowd at Lincoln Financial Field. Jesus Corona would take the spot of Carlos Vela in the starting lineup. The striker from Real Sociedad was suspended for a double booking over the course of the tournament.

Jamaica had three clear chances to open the scoreboard first but was not able to get their shots on target. The team that was playing its first Gold Cup final was in control of the game despite the fact that they were facing a team that on paper was a very clear favorite to win the cup since the day it started.

The Reggae Boyz control of the game drastically decreased when Andres Guardado got a perfect cross from Paul Aguilar and El Principito pushed it to the back of the net to open the scoreboard for Mexico. That was Guardado's sixth goal of the tournament and his fourth in the last three games.

Tecatito showed up in the second half to extend Mexico's lead just two minutes into the final half. The player from Twente was the only one called by Miguel Herrera to play in both Copa America and Gold Cup. While he was really used in the first tournament, he saw limited action throughout Concacaf's competition.

Minutes later, Oribe Peralta added his name to the scoresheet. The striker for America that had only scored a hat-trick against Cuba, had not found the back of the net since the day El Tri had its Gold Cup debut. In the sixth game of the tournament, Oribe clinched the title for Mexico after taking advantage of a defensive mistake.

If Jamaica wanted to take the game into overtime, they would have needed a miracle that never came. They were only able to avoid Guillermo Ochoa from leaving the game with a clean sheet. Darren Mattocks got the one and only goal for Winfried Schafer's team in the 80th minute and that was it for the game.

In the awards ceremony, Mexico's captain Guardado received the "Player of the Tournament" award. El Tri will now have to play the U.S. team to win the right to represent Concacaf in Russia 2017. The game will take place on October 9th and the venue will be Pasadena's Rose Bowl.
