The two former Liverpool stars shared warm greetings before kick-off and during the break, as the ICC clash brought in huge crowds.

Football fans love deep friendships between players that stand the test of time, and none rates higher in everyone’s heart than that between former Liverpool stars Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard.

The two players grew very close during their time together at Anfield, and were there for each other during rough patches; Gerrard a shoulder to cry on for the Uruguayan after the Reds lost the English Premier League race at Crystal Palace, and Suarez the one to consolide his captain when England crashed out of the World Cup.

And now, even though the two play in separate continents, one dominating European football, whilst the other looks to see out what remains of his glorious career in USA, they continue to be close.

With Barcelona facing LA Galaxy on early Wednesday, Suarez and Gerrard met up a day before the game, and then came face to face on the pitch.

The MLS and La Lig ace shared a warm hug before kick-off, and then exchanged shirts at half-time, which warmed Twitter's heart, and left some Liverpool supporters filled with nostalgia, as both were removed off the pitch by their respective coaches after 45 minutes.

The game ended 2-1 in the Blaugrana’s favor, with Luis opening the goalscoring on the brink of half time, before Sergi Roberto doubled the Catalan giants’ lead in the 56th minute. Tommy Meyer pulled one back for the MLS side in the 90th minute.

Even though the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar were absent, still on holiday after their Copa America duty, the game on Wednesday brought in a record attendance for a game involving a team from the Major League Soccer, attracting over 93,000 people to the Rose Bowl stadium in California.

This is just further proof of the growing appeal of the beautiful game in North America, with a steady number of star players trading football in Europe for a move to USA, Mexican striker Giovani dos Santos being the latest big profile name to do so.
