The German international was sought out by a number of top European teams, but he will remain playing at Signal Iduna Park until 2017.

After six months surrounded by rumors about his future, Ilkay Gundogan will not be moving anywhere. Earlier today, Borussia Dortmund's website revealed that the German midfielder will continue playing for the yellow-and-black until 2017 after signing a contract extension with the team.

Gündogan was one of the most sought out midfielders in this transfer window, with clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and even Barcelona trying to lure the player away from Dortmund. Ultimately, the German International decided to sign a contract extension with the club where he played the 2013 UEFA Champions League final.

"I am really psyched about my future here. It's really good for all of us that we finally were able to settle this, and I'm happy to remain a Borussia Dortmund player. Now, I can focus 100% in the team's preseason," Gundogan stated after signing the deal.

Borussia Dortmund's Sports Director Michael Zorc trusts Gündogan can get back to his old form as one of the team's top players, following a season full of injuries.

"I'm really happy Ilkay will be joining us next season. He is one of our most talented players and we want to see him back at his fullest. I'm sure there will be some good times with him on the pitch this year," Zorc added.

Terms of the agreement are yet to be revealed.
