England and Canada will clash at the BC Place Stadium on Saturday, the 27th of June in what promises to be a highly entertaining encounter.

Both Canada and England have successfully made it to the Quarter-Final of the illustrious tournament, but it has hardly been an easy ride for both the sides. However given what is at stake, both teams will be eager to pull their socks up and give their best. Here we take a look at some interesting stats which might have an implication on the outcome on Saturday.

England and Canada have met 11 times on the international stage, with the Lionesses having an advantage having won six times against their counterparts, with the remaining matches won by Canada.

England are currently ranked as the sixth best team in Women's football and are two places above eighth ranked Canada.Source: BBC

·         England have never made it past the Quarter-Final stage in the World Cup, Canada on the other hand ended the competition in fourth place back in World Cup 2003.

·         The two teams have met one another twice this year, picking up win apiece by a 1-0 score line.

·         Hosts Canada are currently unbeaten in the tournament having  won two and drawn the remaining out of the four matches they have played so far.

·         England have won all their last three matches with the same score line (2-1).

·         Canada played Great Britain in the Quarter-Final stage of the London 2012 Olympics, a match they won by a 2-0 score line.

·         The two sides have played one another seven times in the last five years, with England having won four of these encounters compared to Canada's three.

·         Since Sampson replaced former boss Hope Powell, England have picked up two victories against their counterparts on Saturday, in three matches played.

·         England's 2-1 victory over Norway in the Round of 16 was only the third time a senior England side (men's or women's) recorded a victory in the knockout stage.

·         Canada's captain Christine Sinclair is the third highest all time top scorer in international football having scored 153 goals in 221 starting appearances.

·         Canada have been very resilient at the back having conceded just once in the tournament so far, compared to England who have been scored against four times so far.

·         England however have been the better team offensively, having scored six goals in the four games they have played so far compared to Canada's three.

·         Eniola Aluko boasts an impressive record of 19 goals in her last 30 international matches, but is yet to open her account in the tournament.

The numbers show that the two sides are difficult to separate and it is not easy to pick out a clear winner. England have perhaps been the better side going forward but it remains to be seen whether they can do the job against a very well organized Canadian side. The hosts on the other hand will be well supported by a sold out crowd at the BC Place and will be hoping to do well on home turf. All of this points out to a very exciting match ahead.
