The right back will sign his deal with the Reds after he undergoes a medical examination scheduled for next week.

One of Liverpool's tasks during this transfer season was that of signing a top class right back, and Brendan Rodgers has completed that task with class. Sources indicate that Nathaniel Clyne, former Southampton defender, will be joining the Reds after both clubs agreed a £12.5 million transfer. During the past weeks, the Saints had dismissed a number of offers from Manchester United and Chelsea, while Liverpool's bid to sign the player was satisfying enough for the team's management.

Southampton needed to sell Clyne during this transfer window, since his contract with the club ends on June 30, 2016. If the team hadn't agreed on a transfer, his departure next year would have left no money for Ronald Koeman's side.

Initially, Liverpool presented a £10 million bid for the player, which was instantly rejected. After a couple of days negotiating, both parties agreed on the transfer, which will be completed once the player undergoes a medical and signs his contract with Anfield Road's owners.

Clyne will become the latest addition to Liverpool from Southampton, following such players as Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana. Furthermore, the right back is the fourth signing during this transfer window for the Reds, after the team acquired Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and James Milner.
