As Lithuania prepare to take on Switzerland in their last EURO 2016 qualifying match prior to the summer hiatus, the morale among the players will be at a crucial low. And the same can be certainly said of their weary fans. The hosts have the third worst attack in Group E, with just three goals scored. Only Estonia - with one - and San Marino, who are still searching that first qualifying goal have done worse.
As a result, even if they manage to beat Switzerland, who thrashed them 4-0 in the reverse fixture last season, they will likely still be behind on goal difference. However, they are playing at home and are not entirely out of the running for a play-off berth as they have accumulated a solid six points.
Nonetheless, two straight friendly losses - a 4-0 defeat to Hungary on June 5th followed by a 2-0 reversal to Malta three days later - will certainly not help to boost anyone's confidence as the team seeks their first win since powering past Estonia 1-0 in a EURO 2016 qualifying game on October 9, 2014.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, Vladimir Petković's men are coming into this match fresh off a comfortable 3-0 win against Liechtenstein and Inter Milan star Xherdan Shaqiri, who grabbed himself a brace - including a cheeky flick - in the reverse fixture, was also on the score-sheet four days ago.
Interestingly, whilst Lithuania began their EURO 2016 qualifying campaign off on the right foot by winning their first two games - albeit against San Marino and Estonia - Switzerland struggled, losing first to England and then Slovenia.
However, since then, la Nati have rebounded in style as they have now won their last three matches in this stage sans conceding a single goal. And with their hosts' atrocious form and lack of firepower, it is expected for the Swiss to earn all three points to possibly overthrow Slovenia and move into second to secure an automatic qualifying berth alongside top-placed England.
