The defending champions face the tough task of repeating their feat of 2011, but it will not be easy due to the absence of one of the best players in the business: Luis Suarez.

Los Charrúas were crowned as Copa America champions in the 2011 edition, but it won't be easy for them to repeat it. After Diego Forlán's retirement from his National Team, and with Luis Suarez's eight-match ban following his highly publicized incident in the 2014 World Cup, coach Oscar Tabarez will have to search for alternatives in order to live up to their glorious history in the tournament. With a squad full of great individual talents, it is yet to be determined if "El Maestro" can be able to make them play as a team, just like he did four years ago.

What does history tell us about Uruguay's Copa America performances?

The Uruguayans are the most winning side in Copa America history, having won 15 editions of the tournament. Among their many records, Los Charruas are the National Team with the most participations (41), and they have seen how their players have been awarded the tourament's MVP trophy. Among those players who have won the prize are Obdulio Varela, Enzo Francescoli (twice) and Luis Suarez, who won it in 2011.

Uruguay's top players to watch

With Suárez unavailable, all eyes will be set on Edinson Cavani. Paris Saint Germain's striker will be in charge of the goal scoring duties for Los Charrúas, with the added bonus of finally proving himself as the top player his National Team needs. Diego Godín will also be an anchor in the backfield, since his leadership among the last line is unquestionable. Godín is one of the most desired players for European sides, and he will be trying to prove once again he is a top quality performer.

Will Godín and Cavani be able to lead the Uruguayans in the absence of Suárez?
